Bill only searches your own administration. Check that the document or entry exists, and that you’re in the right business — see Switch between businesses.
What Bill can do
Bill searches your administration, summarizes revenue and VAT, and stages actions that only happen once you confirm them.
The Ask Bill button on your dashboard opens the general conversation about your administration. Bill replies in your app language, English or Dutch.
Asking questions
Bill searches and calculates across your own administration. Ask in plain language:
- “How much revenue did I make in March?”
- “Which invoices are still outstanding?”
- “Which expenses are still missing a receipt?”
- “What’s my profit this quarter?” or “Where does my VAT stand?”
- “Who are my biggest customers this year?”
Answers often contain direct links — tap one and the entry, invoice, or document opens in the app.
Actions: Bill proposes, you confirm
Bill stages every action with a short summary (“Send a reminder for invoice INV-2026-0031 to Brightline Interiors?”). Nothing changes until you confirm, usually with one tap. An unanswered proposal expires after ten minutes.
Bill can, among other things:
- prepare a draft invoice;
- send an invoice or a payment reminder;
- mark an invoice as paid, or generate a public link for it;
- change an entry’s category or VAT rate;
- apply a one-off correction to how a single entry is booked, in your own words;
- link an entry to a bank transaction, or unlink it;
- resolve an entry without a receipt, recording your reason;
- close a documented entry that will never be paid from your business account;
- permanently remove an entry whose document doesn’t belong in your books;
- set up a standing rule so similar expenses are booked correctly from now on.
One-off correction or standing rule
A one-off correction applies to the entry you’re discussing and nothing else: tell Bill how it should be booked and he re-books that single entry.
A standing rule keeps working afterwards — it’s the only way to make a preference last beyond one entry. Asking for a rule from inside an entry’s own conversation also re-books that entry immediately; see Chat about one specific entry.
Closing something you’ll never see on your bank
Paid privately, settled in cash, or already handled directly in the bookkeeping? Bill first makes the booking reflect what actually happened, then closes the entry as settled without a bank payment, so it drops off your accountant’s unresolved list. The booking stays; nothing is removed.
This only works on an entry that has a document and no linked bank transaction. If a bank payment is already linked, the entry is settled through your bank and there’s nothing to close.
What Bill doesn’t do
- Nothing changes in your administration without your confirmation.
- Bill can’t make payments and can’t connect banks.
- Bill only looks at the administration of your active business.
